See MD: Most cases of broncitis are due to viral infections. These are usually not associated with fevers as high as you describe. Your friend should see a doctor and be checked for influenza( which could be treated with tamiflu (oseltamivir) or relanza) or a bacterial pneumonia that would require antibiotic treatment.
