Viral headache: Headache with viral illness is very common in children, and worsens at night when the fever rises. If it gets better with Acetaminophen and she returns easily to sleep and plays during the day with no stiff neck, you can watch; if she is unhappy or vomiting and/or neck is stiff, she needs to see the dr. Also go if it lasts more than a few days.

Yes!: Any pain that wakes a child can be a serious issue. I recommend you see your pcp as soon as possible. Be on the look out for more symptoms like dizziness or vomiting and watch how his gait is. If he is stumbling or having trouble with his speech it means the headaches need immediate attention. The fever can cause headaches but it is the waking up at night that worries me. Good luck.
