Yes if untreated: Typically, the critter causing RMSF is readily killed by Doxycyline if started within the first 5 days of infection. If treatment is delayed, RMSF can be severe and bring a myriad of small vessel vasculitis-related problems. Due to the rarity of this illness (about 2,000 cases per year in the country), there is not enough known. Individualized care is best. Infectious disease or internist.
