Finasteride and...: There are not great treatments for preventing androgenic hair loss. Finasteride is an oral medication that has been shown to help prevent and even regrow some hair. It does have some important possible side effects to discuss with your doctor, however. Minoxidil is a topical medication that also can help. It is now otc and relatively safe. Both of these medicines are not "cures" however.
