Not simple : There is obstructive and central sleep apnea, and the answer depends. in the most common obstructive sleep apnea, OSA, try to keep healthy BMI, but many OSA has normal BMI. OSA can run in family. How and why your get OSA is not simple answer, as it is commonly seen with Diabetes, HTN, etc..... You need to speak with your MD who will guide you
