Call on-call MD: Your son's surgeon is on-call or has a colleague on-call for issues such as this. Pollicization is a big-deal surgery that you and your surgeon want to go right, so this is something i would want my patient to call about, even over the holiday. Keep your son's activities low until this is corrected or resolved!

Let doctor know!: Most likely, the swelling has gone down causing the cast to be loose. It's probably okay to leave it like this until the doctor is back in the office since the cast is coming off soon, but i prefer to know if my patients are having any concerns!

Small children tend : To wiggle and wriggle free from operative casts after hand surgery. Id call the hospital as there is probably someone on call to advise you even if the clinical office are not open. If there is an inner dressing below the cast it is likley ok but its not hard to check. I can't imagine that there is not someone on call to advise you. You don t want the thumb to "lose position" in the cast.
