Followup lung cancer: After being in remission for 5 years, most patients will need an annual visit with their oncologist or thoracic surgeon with physical exam, review of systems and a chest x-ray. Smoking should be strongly discouraged. Being in remission for over 5 years can translate into cure for >50% of these patients but if they develop any new symptoms then a clinical exam and x-rays should be done.

Yearly examination: Yearly history and physical examination, with either a cxr or ct scan for follow-up.

Unclear: After 5 years the chance of recurrence is low. However, individuals who have had one lung cancer, are at risk for developing a separate, new unrelated lung cancer. Therefore surviviors after 5 years should probably get yearly low dose chest ct scans.
