No: As with food products, gum too will pass through the gut without problem. Some studies have shown chewing gum to be effective in reducing symptoms of gastric reflux (heartburn). But there have been no studies showing that swallowing gum is problematic.

Sticky situation: Gum usually is passed easily through the stools.There has been reports of intestinal blockage in children who swallowed large amounts of gum and were also constipated....It is a good idea to spit it out!
