Great choice!: In the olden days, all we had were diuretics and beta blockers. Then ace inhibitors and calcium channel blockers came along. The arb class came along 10 years ago, and was "the new and improved." these have fewer side effects and are good at what they do. Avapro (irbesartan) has the additional benefit of protecting diabetic kidneys from the damaging effects of high blood pressures and sugars.
