She's anxious: Rapid, shallow breathing usually results from being anxious. Since the air is not reaching the air sacs, the oxygen is getting lower and the carbon dioxide is going up. If it continues, she will feel lightheaded, then tingly around mouth and fingers, pulse will get rapid, chest pain/palpitations, maybe pass out (hyperventilation). Have her take slow deep breaths, soothe and calm, a gentle hug..
