Support group: Over eating can be just as difficult to overcome as drug and alcohol addiction. Much of the same brain chemistry comes into play. Many people find support groups helpful to overcome this struggle. You might seek out celebrate recovery, over-eaters anonymous or other, similar groups for help.

Food: People eat for various reasons: ritual, habit, routine, stress, boredom. Try to identify what feelings or habits are at work when eating without hunger. Find alternative activities, or if you do eat, choose low calorie celery, water, carrots, etc. It's not clear if you are having anorexia, not necessarily the eating disorder , as a symptom of depression or several other medical conditions.

2 Types of Hunger: The 1st is physiologic, your body needs energy & nutrients; 2nd is "habit" hunger, you are used to snacking. The 1st is triggered by things such as dropping blood sugar; the 2nd by environmental triggers. Example, if you are used to sitting down at 8 pm in front of the tv with a bowl of ice cream, your mind will expect ice cream when you sit down at 8 to watch tv. Identify & control your triggers.
