Orthopedist: The signs you are describing could be carpal tunnel syndrome or repetitive task injury. A consult with an orthopedist or orthopedic surgeon is warranted

Tendonitis: Can present with very sharp pain, a common type of tendinitis in the wrist is deqervains affecting the thumb tendons but any tendon that crosses the wrist can be affected. Ice, nsaids and soft splinting may help, if symptoms worsen, are accompanied by redness swelling seek attention as early infection may present this way too.
