Not likely: Most store bought mouth guards are "boil and bite" and will shape themselves to the current position of your teeth. They will not shift your teeth alignment.

Mouthguard issue: If the mouthguard is not made properly to fit right, it can cause issues. I would go into your dentist and have it checked out. Better yet, have your dentist custom make one for you. It will fit better, be more comfortable, and not cause any problems with your teeth/allignment.

It could: Get a custom one made by a dentist. Otc mouthguards, if not molded correctly, can definitely change tooth alignment.

Store bought : Store bought generic mouth guards might be better than nothing for protection in contact sports, but do not offer the best protection, nor are they as comfortable. Consider a dentist fabricated custom one as a significantly better alternative. For players who spend so much money and time in sports, the additional cost is well worth it. Even generic should not change alignment 4 amount of time worn.

Store bt mouthgard: Since a store bought mouthgard is boil and bite, it will conform to your teeth and therefore will probably not affect tooth alignment. However, it may be too thick and affect your bite and your tmj. You are always better off having a custom fit mouthgard, which is much more comfortable, made by you dentist.

OTC MG: There are several different over the counter night guard choices most being the boil in water sports guard type. There are alternatives, like a type called sleep right which you do not heat up in water and is less cumbersome. However, it should be clear that an otc ng is a temporary fix and is usually used as a stepping stone to having a custom guard made.
