A member asked:

Gyn cancer. do dr's "really" listen to pt symptoms or presume all is ok based on prior research?

Depends on the Dr.: Doctors are trained to listen to their patient, complete a physical exam, review the proper laboratory tests, and then make a judgment based on evidence combined with their prior knowledge of disease. If you don't feel like your doctor is listening to you, you should find a new one.

Depends on people: Whether or not a patient feels his physician listens to his symptoms is dependent upon the personalities, time constraints, and natures of the individual doctor and the particular patient. If one feels his physician is not meeting his needs or not listening to him, it might be time to get an appointment with another physician or physicians, to experience different doctor-patient interactions.

Yes: If your doctor doesnt listen, find another. There are doctors who dont listen but plenty who do.
