A member asked:

What test should my wife and i have if we are planning on tryin to have a baby?

Usually none: Both a husband and a wife should each see his and her primary care doctors for complete check-ups, including vaccine updates. A woman needs an adult medicine doctor, not just an ob-gyn, to do check-ups. The primary care doctors can suggest some testing if the couple is at high risk for inherited diseases, such as sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, cystic fibrosis, hemophilia, etc...

None: All you need is regular menses and frequent unprotected intercourse. If that doesn't work after 6-12 months, then you get tests done..

See below: Agree with Dr. In an otherwise healthy couple no tests are needed. Your wife should start taking pre-natal vitamins in consultation with your doctor. Wish you good health and a healthy baby!

Planning a baby: I understand your desire to have a baby. Let Wise persons in both of you ask: •Feeling fulfilled in your emotional, physical and sexual intimacy? •Reasons to have child when you are 39 years old? •Age of your wife and reasons for a child? •Medical condition – Obesity, Diabetes, high Blood pressure? •Use of Alcohol, Marijuana, or Tobacco? Discuss these with your Physician, and for any tests needed

Agree w answers: However, if your wife is over 35, you may not try for a full year, and you want to see a fertility specialist earlier, good luck
