Multiple trauma: It sounds like he was injured very badly, and could be on multiple medications for pain and other things. Could he have been using alcohol or other drugs before the accident, and be withdrawing from some of these now? His doctors will be watching closely for any signs like these, or of delirium related to his injuries. If he's not sleeping at night, this could be another source of disturbance.
