A member asked:

For what reason would a patient with an epiphyseal fracture be admitted to the pediatric ward?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Displaced Fx, need-: Ing observation, for ensuring there is no vascular injury, eg, fx around the elbow. They may require surgery to realign/fixing. Severely displaced can cause acute compartment syndrome, where emergency surgical decompression is needed to ensure the hand/foot can have restoration of the blood flow + fixing the bone(s). Mainly, complicated/open fx's or when circulation or nerve function is threatened.
