Any number of: people can develop a pilonidal cyst though the diagnosis is usually made at an earlier age...teens and 20's. It is possible that a 53 year old could be diagnosed with a pilonidal cyst for the first time though uncommon. They can occur in males, females and any race, but there is no particular "type" of person.
