Thrombosis: Detecting a developing blood clot is a challenging problem in the early stages. Pain and swelling are pretty good symptoms once it is developed. The relation to your chest pain is still uncertain. You could have been showering small emboli to your lungs, even with a value of 500 (which is likely below the threshold for your lab.) Further radiologic study (leg US, etc) may help clarify things.
