Change med classes: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) help pain, but also cause a decrease in stomach-lining-protecting mucous and an increase in stomach acid. Tylenol (acetaminophen) does not do these things. Depending on your pain, there are other classes of medications that may be more effective at relieving your pain. Talk to you pcp about what will help your pain, but leave your stomach alone!

Individual variable: Some people do not respond well to narcotics. Let your doc know this. It is usually possible to switch you to a different med.
