A member asked:

How early in pregnancy can you have a scan?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends on purpose: If the goal is to look at baby for seeing normal fetal anatomy, the earliest would be 18 weeks. This allows the m ajor organ systems to be formed to the point of being able to be evaluated. Before 18 weeks the heart has not finished forming and therefore a scan performed prior to this date does not really look at the normally formed fetal heart but a precursor.
