CRL better than LMP: Ultrasound measurements and dating of a "5 week" unassisted pregnancy is imprecise due to biological/ technical limitations. Also, it is difficult to know the exact time of fertilization, because the timing of ovulation and fertilization varies from woman to woman. So, the variables are: first day of LMP, actual time of ovulation, and actual time of fertilization, and transit time to uterus.
