Maybe: If it is a new lump then it should be looked at. It has been there for a while them watch it and if it grows then have it checked out. It could be lipoma i t side but if tender or warm or red then get it looked at right away.

Depends: It depends on several things: how long has it been there? Is it enlarging in size? Does he have any other concerning symptoms (pain, weight loss)? How old is he? The only way to know for sure is to have a complete physical exam with a reputable physician.
