Scar tissue : You had an open inhumanly hernia repair 9 months ago and started working out. It is possible that scar tissue is the cause. Try to build your exercise program up over time. The repair is as healed as it will get by 9 months. If you continue to have discomfort call your surgeon for evaluation. He/she will want to know what/where/when and how it gets better or worse.

Sort of: About 5-10% of folks after an open mesh hernia repair get some chronic discomfort. Cause has not been completely found, but it is thought that the scar tissue the body generates against the mesh-- which makes for a better repair-- irritates the nerves in area. If just a slight discomfort, exercising "through" it may help you ignore it. Advil/aleve help. Neurontin (gabapentin) can help more severe pain.
