Lower blood pressure: Avapro is the brand name for irbesartan. It is in the class of blood pressure lowering medications called angiotensin receptor blockers (arb). Avapro can also be used to help reduce the kidney complications of diabetes or used in congestive heart failure. Other medications in this class include losartan (cozaar), candesartan (atacand), and olmesartan (benicar). And valsartan (diovan).
