Sounds : Like postnasal drainage from allergies that is why she is alright the rest of the day. You can try giving her some Claritin (loratadine) or any allergy medicine for a start.If condition worsened or she developed other symptoms, please take her to her doctor.

Possibly allergies?: A possibility for early am coughing could be allergies. Both allergic and nonallergic rhinitis are known to cause am cough in children. Other causes could be a dry, humid room causing a dry, itchy throat. I would definitely recommend seeing your doctor for an evaluation.
