Synthroid (thyroxine) is: The synthroid (thyroxine) is appropriate treatment for the high tsh, which reflects an inadequate supply of thyroid hormone. I would not prescribe a weight loss drug such as Phentermine until the thyroid hormone level has been normalized, which will take 6-8 weeks.
