A few weeks: Once you have been exposed to hsv your body make antigens against it. These antigens are in your bloodstream even if you do not have any outbreaks. That is why blood tests are done to diagnose hsv. It can take a few weeks or a month for enough antigens to be produced so sometimes the first blood test can be negative. Another blood test would be needed in a few weeks to determine it you have it.
