L5/S1: Back pain with sciatic type unilateral leg pain localizes your pain generator to that level. Back pain alone as a symptom is more difficult. I treat these problems with physical therapy and rest. An epidural steroid may help. Diagnostic studies may include a provocative discogram if all fails. Surgical management for back pain alone is controversial but may include an alif procedure.
