Yes: Sunscreen is recommended for people of all skin types as skin cancer is seen in every group. Melanin is the pigment which is responsible for the brown color. In african american skin, melanin provides a sun protection factor (spf) approximately equivalent to 13.4, compared to 3.4 in white skin. That said skin cancer still represents 1-2% of african americans and asians.
