Retina repair: Retinal detachment means that the retinal layer has become loosened. It can be very localized or extensive. The extent and typoe of repair is dictated by the circumstances and extent. It can be as simple as "welding it in place" with a laser or cold therapy to the need to put a "bubble" in the eye to push it back into place or even putting a plastic band partially or totally encircling the globe.

Retinal Detachment: Retinal detachment can be rhegmatogenous (from a tear of hole), tractional (from contracting membranes/scar tissue), or serous (from inflammatory, tumor, vascular, etc.). The first two are treated surgically, either in the office (pneumatic retinopexy) or in the operating room with scleral buckle, pars plana vitrectomy, laser, cryoretinopexy, membrane peeling, and/or gas or silicone oil placement.

Reposition Retina: Repairing a retinal detachment involves use of specialized techniques to either remove scar tissue causing a tractional elevation of retina or to close a hole and drain subretinal fluid. The later is the more common occurrence. Retinal surgeons frequently use in-office procedures such as laser w/ gas bubble injection or operative surgery with vitrectomy to reattach the retina.
