Surgery: A surgical procedure to reattach the retina to the back of the eye.

Tear: Usually there is a tear or hole in the retina. Rarely just laser ing the tear or hole will close the area and nothing else is needed. If fluid is under the retina this has to be removed with specific surgery. Rarely a buckle is placed around the eye ball to keep the detachment on.
