Nerve sample: Nerve is a bundle of fibers that uses electrical and chemical signals to transmit sensory and motor information from one body part to another. A biopsy is a sample of tissue taken from the body in order to examine it more closely. A doctor should recommend a biopsy when an initial test suggests an area of tissue in the body isn't normal.

Surgical procedure: A small piece of nerve, usually the aural, is studied under a microscope after being prepared and stained, and the presence of pathological changes may allow diagnostic confirmation. Small nerve fibers, can be studied from skin biopsies.
