Kidney needle: A kidney biopsy is performed to determine the cause of kidney disease. It is performed by inserting a biopsy needle, usually with ultrasound guidance, into the lower pole of one kidney, pencil lead wide pieces about one inch long are submitted for pathologic reivew.
