X-Ray Exam of Chest: A chest x-ray is the basic radiographic study for evaluation of the heart and lungs. It usually consists of 2 views: postero-anterior and lateral. The image is now usually acquired digitally with the sensor placed against the front of the chest for the pa view and on the left side of the chest for the lateral view. Pneumonia, heart enlargement, CHF and many other conditions may be assessed.

Chest radiograph: A radiograph of chest usually consists of 1 or 2 views, anteroposterior and lateral. On the image are heart, aorta, pulmonary vessels, lungs, airway, upper abdomen, thoracic skeleton (ribs, vertebrae), shoulders and lower neck. The radiograph reveals anatomy of the above components in both health and disease. This exam involves use of external radiation.The amount of irradiation is usually low dose.
