No: It isn't necessary to awaken someone who is having a nightmare. Nightmares are normal and common. Maybe, they're a way for your mind to sort some stuff out. Waking someone from a nightmare, could mess up the mind's natural way of dealing with things. Again, they're normal, common and probably needed in some way, or else we wouldn't have them, right?

Nightmares: You actually shouldn't wake them up unless they are getting ready to do something dangerous, and even then you need to be careful. Please recommend that they check out the No More Nightmares book and class. Learning the skill of Planned Dream Intervention, the person will sleep peacefully through whatever their dreams are, not act them out, and wake up feeling refreshed http://youtu.be/WvuQl4duUoE

No: It’s best not to wake the person who is having the mild to moderate nightmare. The only time it’s worth waking someone up is when the nightmare appears to be severe.
