Keep pressure off: Depending on which bone in the foot is broken, the time to healing and activity level varies. But, generally, a fracture needs 6 weeks to heal and the less pressure on the area the better. Also, the foot should be elevated as much as possible to limit the amount of swelling. Too much swelling slows down the healing process as well.
