Non-op tx: Historically, ganglion cysts were called "bible cysts", as the good book was used to impact the cyst externally and result in a closed rupture- associated with high recurrence rates. At present, more gentle non-op options include aspiration of the cyst. Recurrence rates for aspiration are higher than open surgical excision (and open excision has higher rates than arthroscopic assisted excision).

Yes: Needle aspiration is often an effective way to remove ganglion cysts. However, this is best reserved for dorsal cysts on the back of the wrist. Also, keep in mind that the recurrence rate following cyst aspiration is upwards of 75%!
