Why do supernumerary teeth occur?

Genetics: Supernumerary teeth are a developmental anomaly. They occur with a fairly high frequency. It's genetic and usually nothing to worry about. See a dentist or oral surgeon and they can address the problem. Sometimes supernumerary teeth are indicative of a much larger developmental problem, therefore it's good to get checked out by a doctor.

Genetic: Definitely tends to run in families. Usually does not signal any other problem although there is an increased prevalence in certain conditions such as cleidocranial dysplasia and gardner syndrome.
