Hormones & immunity: Certain diseases favor higher estrogen levels, which women achieve during pregancy. Sle can flare, while RA usually improves. But it is though that a women's immune system is dampened to some extent to allow her to have a fetal graft, so to speak. Certain viral mediated illness may therefore be worse. Bell's palsy is thought to be virally triggered!
