No: No, those tests are not good at picking up valve problems , or heart muscle weakness. An echocardiogram may be a useful addition.

A 33-year-old member asked:

If I have high blood pressure, am I at higher risk of a heart attack when I am pregnant?

Dr. Aileen Caceres
Specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology
You might be at risk: High blood pressure during pregnancy can be managed. Before getting pregnant, it is recommended that your doctor obtain baseline evaluation of your kidneys, eyes, and heart. A well-controlled hypertensive patient can have a healthy pregnancy if problems do not arise during the pregnancy. A heart attack can occur if your blood pressure is not well controlled, and your doctor can help you with this.

Is my childs coughing related to heart burn? He does not have any breathing problems

Dr. Scott Katz
Pediatrics 26 years experience
Possibly: Coughing is a symptom and not a condition, therefore there are many possible causes. Heart burn (also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease or gerd) is a possible cause, especially if there are no breathing problems. Other causes include upper respiratory infections, allergies and asthma. Mild asthma can present as a cough without respiratory distress.

How does vaginal child birth lead to stress incontinence in women?

Damaged muscles: Childbirth can be traumatic to the muscles and nerves surrounding the bladder, vagina and rectum. The nerves can be damaged and small tears in the muscles can lead to prolapse and incontinence is some women. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. It is common and fixable.

Sometimes: We do not diagnose asthma or COPD by x-rays or ct scans. That being said, we do commonly see evidence of emphysema on ct scans. We diagnose these breathing disorders with a pulmonary function test.

Can a neck injury cause eye swelling and severe headache?

Head injury: Eye swelling and severe headache sounds more like a head injury. You can certainly have a head injury associated with a neck injury. Head injuries can be caused by rotational forces without direct impact to your skull (like in a neck injury). You definitely need to get checked out by your doc! i am unclear what kind of trauma was involved; i would get over to an emergency room for an evaluation.
