Perhaps: Mri is now one of the best ways to follow ms, but some pts have only spinal cord lesions, while others only brain, and many with both. Another approach is spinal fluid analysis, but need to do lumbar puncture. Benign ms really is nowadays, a retrospection based on years of little if any brain problems.

See below: Mri is currently best used to follow ms when a diagnosis has been made clinically. To my knowledge that has not been a documented study that evaluate MRI as the only diagnostic tool for ms. This may be the future, however. Findings on MRI are still somewhat nonspecific.
