Clinical diagnosis: Because MRI is particularly useful in detecting central nervous system demyelination, it is a powerful tool in helping to establish the diagnosis of ms. It should be remembered, however, that approximately 5% of patients with clinically definite ms do not show lesions on MRI at the time of diagnosis. Ms remains a clinical diagnosis with MRI but one tool in its diagnosis and management.

Some thoughts: Since MRI not an option (?metal within your body??), one approach is to get a lumbar puncture and do immunological survey within the spinal fluid. Evoked potentials are rarely used these days but might be of value in your case.
