Use mask; wash hands: A person with a respiratory symptoms (allergy, cold, flu, strep throat, pink-eye symptoms, etc...) should only be near a young baby if he truly needs to help with baby care, regardless of whether or not he is on medication. If he must help with baby care, he should put on a surgical mask (available at drugstores) and then wash his hands and arms. Avoid holding the baby up to the ill person's head.

Yes: Remember that infections aren't spread by magic. This type would be spread by contact, either with infected surfaces or respiratory secretions spread by coughs or sneezes. Good hand washing and mouth covering should suffice, just be careful. But no reason dad needs to be banished to the basement...
