Get checked ASAP!: If your Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud strings are suddenly much shorter, they could have simply moved up into the cervix or uterus. But, pregnancy (while not likely) enlarges the uterus and can make the iud migrate upward. Perforation - the iud moving through the uterine wall - could do this also. Any unusual pain, abnormal bleeding, or change in the way your iud "seems" is reason to be checked. Do this asap.
