IUD insertion: It is common to have mild bleeding and spotting for the 1st 3-6 weeks after Mirena (levonorgestrel) insertion. In those weeks the IUD is thinning the lining. Most users experience very light periods with Mirena (levonorgestrel). Many have no periods at all. Quoted rates are 50% having no periods within 1-2 years of use.
