Need more info: Does he smoke? Is he potentially exposed to whooping cough? Are his vaccinations up to date? What antibiotics has he been on and why? If you are not getting appropriate answers from the doctor who is seeing him, perhaps you need a second opinion from somebody who can examine him and obtain a full history.
