A member asked:

If some of the steroid/anesthetic of epidurals coated the nerves that innervate the l intestine or other organs, could gastric stasis result?

No: Epidural promotes perestaltic movements in GI track. Narcotics can cause constipation.

Epidurals and ileus: Nerves innervating the large intestine arise from the mid thorax and so a lumbar epidural steroid injection i unlikely to affect those nerves. Even if some did get distributed, it would result in better GI motility.
