A member asked:

Can sleep stages be detected by wrist actigraphy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Suggested only....: Actigraphy involves recording movements, large and small, of the limb on which the monitor is worn. Since rem sleep is usually devoid of or contains very little movement, one can infer the presence of rem cycles by the decrease in small movements that are a normal part of non-rem sleep as well as normal drowsiness and wakefulness.
