Bag helps strength: Depending on your style of kickboxing, you need a bag to really develop your kick strength. If you are doing a muay thai style kick, with the impact on the shin bone, then you need a heavy bag to train with so that your shin can become stronger and become less sensitive when you kick! It hurts at first, but later your leg adapts. Kicking without a bag may help balance, form and cardio only.
